Spiritual gifts are given to us by God through the Holy Spirit according to I Corinthians 12:6. Since the sole purpose of spiritual gifts is to serve others don’t be concerned about not having a particular gift rather prepare yourself as a vessel ready to be used at any time for any gift.
Here is a sample prayer that can help you flow with the move of the Holy Spirit at any time. You may find that as you pray in this manner, more gifts will be given to you or the ones you have will intensify. This prayer is designed to increase your faith and make you aware of the supernatural power of God. Becoming aware of the supernatural is the starting point so ask the Holy Spirit to teach you.
Heavenly Father, I come to you with praise and thanks for all that you have done and are doing. I acknowledge all of the blessings you have placed in my life. [Out Loud: Thank Him for every blessing that comes to mind. The more the better1] I appreciate you and thank you Father God. You are worthy of all praise and thanksgiving and I honor you. I pray for more communion and fellowship with you Lord and a deeper understanding of your ways. I pray for revelation of your heart Father God so that I walk in reverence of you as I serve others. May all blockages be removed from my spiritual eyes and ears so that I may see and hear what the Holy Spirit is revealing. I pray for wisdom to befriend me and speak to my heart and thoughts. I pray for knowledge to comprehend your sovereign will in every situation. Holy Spirit please counsel me and teach me how to apply the knowledge of God and to recognize your movements. I pray for the mighty power of God to come upon me as with David and Sampson, as I am used by you Father God to minister to others all for your glory in the name of Jesus Christ I pray, amen.
1 Corinthians 12 (NKJV): Spiritual Gifts: Unity in Diversity
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant:2 You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led.3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.
4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord.6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
